RESERVE BANK OF FIJI ANNOUNCES POLICY CHANGES

Over the years, former Fiji residents have contributed enormously to the economy by way of remittances and investment. In light of this, Government recently introduced ways to encourage and facilitate further participation of former Fiji residents in the development of the economy. The Reserve Bank, in line with Government’s introduction of a category for permanent resident status for former Fiji residents, their descendents and current spouses, have amended its definition of a Fiji resident to accommodate this change.

DEATH NOTICE: MR PARMANAND SHARMA

 It is our sad duty to announce the death of a well-known Wellington resident, Mr Parmanand Sharma, of 7 Camrose Grove, Kingston. Mr Sharma, father of Mrs Meena Chandra and father-in-law of Umesh Chandra, Treasurer of the Fiji Indian Association, passed away peacefully at his home, this morning.Mr Sharma is survived by his wife, Mrs Jaginder Kaur Sharma, six children, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.The late Mr Sharma was originally from Tavua, Fiji and has been a long-time resident of Wellington. The funeral service will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, 375 Adelaide Rd, Newtown, Wellington from 10.30am on Saturday, August 8 and viewings will be available from tomorrow.  Bereavement Notice 

It is our sad duty to announce the death of a well- known Wellington resident, Mr. Abhimanu Singh of  88 Ararino Street, Trentham, Upper Hutt (previously of Moto, Ba, Fiji) who passed away on Sunday the 13th of September 2015 at Hutt Hospital. 

Mr. Singh was the loving Father of Prit Singh of Riverstone Terraces, Upper Hutt and 

Abhikash Singh, Preetika Kumar and Artika Singh of Australia and 

Father-in-Law of Aten Kumar (previously of Wellington & Palmerston North) and now of Australia. 

The funeral service will held at the Harbour City Funeral Home, on Wednesday the 16th of September 2015 at 10.00am, followed by cremation at Akatarawa Cemetery Crematorium at 11.30 am.

MESSAGE BY THE FIJI ASSOCIATION ON HAJJ 2015

Assalam Alaikum,

 

It is my pleasant task as President of the Fiji Association of Wellington to offer our best wishes to all those Muslim brothers and sisters who are making the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. I commend all those brothers and sisters from Wellington who are taking part in Hajj 2015 and May Allah (SWT) accept your sacrifices to enable you to be part of the millions now in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. A large contingent from Wellington including the Secretary of the Wellington Islamic Association, Br Hafiz Ali is participating and they have our best wishes. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is enjoined upon those with the means to attend. I also offer our sincere condolences to the families of those who died in a crane accident and May Allah (SWT) grant their families the strength to withstand their loss.

May Allah (SWT) bless all those in Saudi Arabia for Hajj 2015, which will be undertaken between September 21 and 26.

 The SHE TRUST SCHOLARSHIP is available to women who have resided within Lower Hutt City continuously for the last 3 years or have attended a secondary school within Lower Hutt for at least 3 years.

Death Notice

It is with regret and sadness we announce the death of Mr Puran Dass of Rarawai Ba, Fiji, eldest brother of past Fiji Association Secretary Mr Sesh Ram of, 66 Horokiwi Rd, Newlands, Wellington

Mr Dass passed away on Friday the 27th of November, and is survived by a loving wife and 8 children. 

Mr Dass was well known in the community as a cane farmer, market gardener, carrier and truck operator.

The funeral service will be held in Fiji on Monday 30th November 2015.
